Eight strangers find themselves waking up in a strange cube-shaped room with no recollection of how they came to be there. Soon discovering that they’re in a strange fourth dimension where our laws of physics don’t apply, they have to unravel the secrets of the “hypercube” in order to survive…
First of all, this film is a plagiarized version of the original Cube, without as much as a credit to that effect. I’m assuming the producers bought out of crediting the original authors. This could be understandable as a business move if it had to do with a pasta recipe or the like, but is completely without excuse as an artistic move. It’s clear from this point on that those involved in making Hypercube have no aspiration to be considered artists. So, what do we have here? 90% of the original Cube plot plus a bit of cheap special effects, plus one or two new conceptual ideas. And, the intriguing and powerful ending of the original Cube is replaced by an ‘explain it all’ conspiracy wrap up. Horrible! Based on this, Andrzej Sekula should have stuck with filming other people’s work. This effort is just shameful.
