Aliens from outer space want to study human sexuality. So they send one of their own to Earth, in beautiful human female form, to do so. The concept has potential to make for a decent soft-core porno. Unfortunately, its expression in “Femalien” is poorly done. The movie feels a bit like a hard-core porno in the body of a soft-core, minus the extreme genital close-ups and facial shots. There’s plenty of silicone (occasionally in grotesque proportions) on otherwise very thin women, the men are very muscular, and it’s not uncommon for the choreography of the sex to look like something from Adam Eve.
The sex scenes are chock-full of overlapping camera fades from one angle, to another, to another, and back to the original angle — with all the sight lines being piled on top of one another until the return to the original angle occurred. I found this effect to be disorienting. It made it difficult to enjoy the sex, because as soon as I got into something, the cumulative fades started, and I felt like I was watching through a blanket of fog for a few seconds until the cloud was lifted.
The very last scene of the movie, where the alien and her female earth friend finally do it, is a pretty hot scene. But even here, you have to get beyond the camera work. If you can, the scene generates quite a bit of steam. However, there’s also an equal chance that by the time you get to that last scene, you’ll be so frustrated that you’ll have just given up on the whole aimless movie.
