This movie is based on the book of the same name. That’s where the similarities end. Whilst the novel was in the vein of the classic novel “Battle Royale”, chronicling the survival of it’s main character on a day-by-day basis in a crazy Tyrant-run Japan, the movie adds sexual harassment, parallel dimensions, bad acting, weird costumes- all completely unnecessary, which leads to a very jumbled, stupid movie.
It’s a shame that even with the technology of today Japan cannot make a film even touching on the quality of the Kurosawa-era. With the disappointment of the three Death Note movies and now this, blockbuster Japanese film’s future looks bleak.
