This film tries to get you to understand the value of life, any life. It also dispels the idea that heaven is the same for everyone. It gives a good look at many different types of persons, while giving them each a unique gift of dignity and worth. The ending is especially fine in that second chances do come along if we are aware and use them. I think each person in the film had a reason to want to live longer than they did. Realizing that they are dead is a crushing blow to them and their denial of the reality of their own death is painful and many are filled with despair. I am grateful for this point of view in that looking at our own mortality can cause us to either want to give up and die, or try again to make something of our lives and leave something behind that will make this world a better place for those still alive on earth. Sidney Greenstreet is, as always, great at understatement. His easy manner is both calming and disturbing, depending on what you are looking for at the time. Near the end of the movie when assignments of where to go comes into play, we see that one persons heaven may be just the simple life of doing for others. Worth the time to sit and watch and learn something about ourselves and our deep needs.
