Xiang Rong (David Chiang) is a troubled youth who is forced to work as a grocery delivery boy to support his mother and sister. After numerous difficulties, Xiang decides to learn kung-fu, and his tough, youthful passion propels him past his fellow students. However, his unchecked anger gets him expelled by his master (Simon Yuen), and leads him to an eventual job as a triad enforcer. But when his family is threatened, Xiang discovers that he may be in over his head. Tragic consequences and bone-crunching action highlight the final explosive confrontation in The Young Rebel, a rare Shaw Brothers action drama that explores serious themes between bouts of bloody kung-fu action.
