A documentary on the love affair between the city of Chicago and its baseball team, the Cubs.
hicago is one of the greatest cities in the history of cities for so many reasons. “Chi Town” has been the location for manufacturing, the arts, innovation, countless films and TV series and other unique phenomenon that have made it as vital as any city in the world. So outside of gangsters from the prohibition era, how does such a great city deal with the painful loosing streak of their baseball team, The Chicago Cubs? John Scheinfeld’s We Believe (2009) looks at the fact that the team has not won a World Series in over 100 years.
Yet, they have great fans, some of the most loyal in the world. That includes some big names among the many interviewed for this program like Ernie Banks, Billy Corrigan, Lou Pinella, Mayor Richard M. Daly, Joe Mantegna and many locals who believe that one day,. Then team will finally make a comeback. So why have they had such a bad streak? Is it because of lazy ownership (some blame the Wrigley’s Gum owners who owned the field and team back in the day), is it bad management decisions, is it because they do not want to win or is it a curse?
